Mike and I are both fascinated by this book and the world of symbols and themes that has grown up around it.  So what with new Alice movies coming out, we looked up an old one….

The Disney Alice in Wonderland is not a big favorite of mine.  For straight-up Alice, I like the one with Whoopi Goldberg and Ben Kingsley.
Dreamchild is also good – it tells the Alice story as a series of slightly dark flashbacks, and features muppet-creatures.

The new Tim Burton movie is interesting and fun to watch, and that’s all I would say about it.  Tidelands is seriously creepy – a good film, but not for the faint of heart.

The best Alice movies are  Jan Svankmajer’s  surreal vision,  and Phoebe in Wonderland.
