Day 2 – New Jersey to Massachusetts

Day 2 – New Jersey to Massachusetts

Best of the road today:

1. Finally! The rest stops and “welcome centers” along the highway have postcards!! Now all I need is stamps….
2. The weather is amazing. It’s 80 degrees, sunny, breezy. And the motel has a nice pool – spent a good bit of time in the sunshine and water. And! All the weeds look so familiar to me: queen anne’s lace, toadflax, lots and lots of clover.  This is what I remember summer looking like, when I was a kid.
3. My parents are hilarious:
Mom: (singing Hungarian national anthem, in Hungarian, and then perplexed when she forgot a couple of words)
Dad: You know, it’s been 20 years since you started learning Hungarian!
Mom: Well, at least I haven’t forgotten more than I learned.
(pause while we consider that; all fall over laughing)

later, at TGI Friday… we’re far enough north to really notice the accents:

Waitress: We-ah intrah-ducing ah cah-ribbean menu. He-ah you ah.
(We sit; she leaves us to considah ah menus)
Me: She has no r’s at all!
Dad: She would if she ate more.

That one took me a minute.
