Makers' Fair!

Makers’ Fair!

Second annual! StringThing held down a booth again at the Makers’ Fair, for spinning and weaving. This year we had two looms going, and a spinning wheel that guests could try out themselves, as well as proper spinning wheel demos and, of course, the drop spindles, not to mention 18 thousand more little kids who stopped by to do a bit of “finger-spinning” cordage. Seriously, you might think I’d set a life-goal of making sure that every child in North Carolina knows how to make string, just in case… of the zombiepocalypse… when we might not have any string… Anyway, it’s always a big hit and every kid at the Makers’ Fair had a wooly little bracelet on, made of DIY yarn spun by their own tiny fingers.

And that little girl who was obsessed with the loom last year… she was back! A little taller and still totally fascinated by weaving. Her parents basically left her in our booth for the day and came back for her later. Here she is watching Monique with the drop spindle…
A long day, but (as always) well worthwhile.
