In the days of Solomon (according to Micah and to folk songs) everyone lived in peace and unafraid, each under his or her own vine and fig tree.

The grapevine had completely taken over the tomatoes, and while a few cucumbers managed to escape, I think we’ll have to say the vine and fig tree have won the field.  Hooray!

In fact, the grape vine is so enthusiastic I decided we needed an emergency arbor. Mike and Christi helped me figure out a plan and get the wood together, Kyler dug the holes for the posts, and Jaden assisted with the string.

I picked grapes this morning!  When I was growing up, we had a huge vegetable garden in the backyard.  Neighborhood kids would come over and hang out, and we’d all sort of graze on green beans and snap peas.  I am over the moon imaging my own child playing in the yard and picking grapes to munch on.
