The school where I’ve been tutoring is having their first big book fair. Scholastic Books has a very nifty arrangement where they ship a sort of instant pop-up bookstore to the school for a week. Shelves unfold, displays pop out, and an “E-Z” cash register plugs in, and presto! Book store, right there at school. Some of the 5th graders helped with the set-up, which was really delightful. This morning the kids came in to look at the books and make wish lists to show their families, and teachers are posting classroom wish lists online. There’s just nothing like a bunch of little kids going bananas over books! (Cheered me up a little.)
