I was really impressed with this idea from the Urban Ministries of Durham.  They run the homeless shelter and a number of services for families, and as a fundraiser this year they offered the opportunity to “sponsor” items at the shelter – like when major patrons sponsor a sports stadium, or a park bench.  Only you could sponsor anything and everything, in the name of anyone you want to honor!
